Naturopathic Medicine | Advanced Testing

Using data from advanced lab testing & diagnostics help to facilitate a strategic and targeted care plan. Dr. Moore utilizes laboratory testing via LifeLabs (Canada) and several private labs in both Canada and the USA. Common tests may include:

  • Basic blood work (blood counts, electrolytes, kidney function, liver function etc.)

  • Iron levels

  • Thyroid levels

  • Vitamin D3 (25-OH D3)

  • Markers of blood sugar control

  • Inflammatory markers

  • Autoimmune markers

  • Lipids and other cardiac health markers

  • Standard tumor markers

  • Serum zinc, copper, ceruloplasmin or other nutritional markers, or others

Advanced or specialized testing could include one or more of the following:

  • Micronutrient testing

  • Stool testing (microbiome & GI function)

  • SIBO testing

  • Hormone testing

  • Biocept (circulating tumor cells)

  • Methylation and transsulfuration pathways

  • Organic acids

  • Epigenetics

  • Adrenal health testing

  • Food sensitivity testing

Did you know that estrogen can be metabolized by several pathways into different metabolites?

  • 2-Hydroxyestrone metabolite – weaker estrogen receptor binding affinity, protective
  • 16α-Hydroxyestrone metabolite – strong estrogenic activity, stimulates estrogen receptor
  • 4-Hydroxyestrone metabolite – potent, can oxidize to quinones; potentially pro-carcinogenic

Estrogen metabolized to 4-OHE1(E2) can lead to the formation of DNA adducts. This process is a putative tumor initiating event.  Advanced hormone testing can help Dr. Moore better understand a patient’s hormone levels as well as their metabolites. Certain natural medicines can be helpful in supporting healthier estrogen metabolism to aid in cancer prevention, as well as the treatment of uterine fibroids, peri-menopausal symptoms and other conditions.
